Join Sitzmark and other MSC members on a day trip to Spirit Mountain (www.spiritmt.com) in Duluth for an incredible price! Nonmembers may attend for $10 more. (This is just a few dollars more than the box office price adult weekend lift tickets!) This unbeatable price for a day of skiing includes the lift ticket, deluxe coach bus ride, a healthful breakfast on the bus and snacks (such as hard-boiled eggs, bagels, orange juice, and granola bars). AGENDA HERE

Rentals and lessons are available for an extra fee ($29 skis or boards; pay there; let me know when you sign up if you want lessons so they can have instructors available). In the last few years, we've had 60+ skiers each time (including many many new people) and everyone wanted to go back again!

Board the bus at 7 am at the Honeywell parking lot (2600 Ridgway Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55413; park on the southwest side of the complex, by 35W). Get cozy as the bus will be full (50 people). We’ll leave at 7:30 am sharp and serve breakfast once we get rolling; we plan to arrive at Spirit Mt around 10am.

We will be in the Slopeside Room on the lower level next to the hill (like 2018). Upon arrival, just gather your equipment and head to the room to get your lift ticket from Sally and Nancy, settle in, change clothes, and relax throughout the day (we reserved the room all day but cannot guarantee complete security). (We will have a server from about 11am-3pm so you can order lunch.) Pick up your rentals and arrange lessons. For the return trip, the bus will board Spirit Mountain at 5 pm for a 5:30pm departure. We plan to be back to Honeywell around 8pm. This day trip will sell out, so sign up ASAP. To guarantee your seat, you must pay online or contact Sally to arrange for other payments (like cash or check at the Holiday Party).Pictured: Mike, Avis, Greg, Nancy, and Dennis did a puzzle in our private room.

If you need to cancel, please call/email me ASAP so I can try to resell your spot. In general, if you cancel and give me plenty of notice, I’ll give you a partial refund (-$10) as we have to pay credit card fees and it’s extra work to manage refunds and resell. After that, depending on when you cancel, you’ll get none or a partial refund if the bus is full.

Organized by Sally Hed Dahlquist, sally@immunochemistry.com 612-554-0864; co-hosted by Nancy Peterson 507-206-7882 of Traverskis. For just $5, buy a green Sitzmark bandana so we can find each other on the slopes! I’ll have them available on the bus.

PS: If you are not a member of an MSC club and paid the member price instead of the nonmember price, you will have to pay me an additional $10 on the bus or join Sitzmark for $25. If you paid the nonmember price and sign up to join the club on the trip, I will refund the $10 difference to you. If you don’t know what clubs I’m talking about (www.midwestfun.org), you should have paid the non-member price, so bring $10 extra bucks. We’re glad you are joining us!

    Organized by:

    • 1.      Sally Hed Dahlquist, trip co-chair from Sitzmark, 612-554-0864, sally@immunochemistry.com

    Details about Jackson Hole

    1. The town of Jackson elected the first all female town council in 1920. Wyoming was also the first state in the country to allow women the right to vote, serve on juries, and hold public office. This is why Wyoming is known as the “Equality State”!
    2. Jackson is home to the world’s-longest running shootout. Beginning in 1957, the shootout can be seen Monday-Saturday on Town Square to this day!
    3. There have been many feature films shot on location in Jackson Hole including: "Shane," "Rocky IV," "Django Unchained," and "Any Which Way You Can."
    4. The four iconic antler arches on Jackson Hole town square each contain about 2,000 antlers and weigh almost 12,000 pounds!
    5. Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is the only airport in the United States that is located fully within a national park.
    6. Public, federally-owned land such as national parks and national forests makes up 97 percent of Teton County.
    7. One of our local ski resorts, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, has the longest continuous vertical rise of any ski resort in the United States. It gains 4,139 feet of elevation from the valley floor to the top of the tram!
    8. The National Elk Refuge is the final destination of the second largest elk migration in the continental United States (almost 9,000 elk). In the winter months, it is also home to the largest single herd of bison that is under federal management (over 1,000 bison!)
    9. Bridger-Teton National Forest is the largest National Forest in the continental United States. It comes in as a whopping 1.7 million acres. That’s bigger than Delaware!
    10. The state of Wyoming has the lowest population of any US state! The grand total as of 2016 was 585,501.
    11. Wyoming’s highest point is not the Grand Teton as is popularly believed, but the 13,809-foot tall Gannett Peak, which is located in the Wind River Range.
    12. The identity of Wyoming’s signature symbol, the bucking horse and rider, is a source of debate among locals. Some believe that the rider is Guy Holt on his horse Steamboat; while others are adamant the mysterious rider is Albert Jerome “Stub” Farlow.
    13. Wyoming is one of six states to have a state dinosaur… ours is the triceratops.
    14.  The official flower for WY is Indian Paintbrush. You will find this pretty red flower all over Grand Teton National Park!
    15. A 2016 survey showed that there are almost 700 grizzly bears living in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

MSC holds regular board meetings to coordinate activities among the clubs, and plan events like Meet'n'Ski lunches, and Winter Carnival. Check out the MSC website to see more great ski stuff https://www.midwestfun.org/ !  One of our board members holds the position of "MSC Representative" and attends these meetings. Our current rep is Bob Dike, who has been in this position for several years (thanks Bob!).  If you'd like to attend the meeting with Bob, please contact him.
